Regardless of the industry or business, accountants are an essential part of any firm so it's safe to say accounting (and accounting jobs!) isn't a profession that's about to go out of fashion any time soon - in fact, accounting is one of the oldest professions in the world (the oldest records date back nearly 7000 years!) so jobs in accounting can be a great choice if you're looking for a financial career that will stand the test of time. In simple terms, accounting is the process of producing information about a business in the form of financial statements that show the economic resources (in simple money terms) under the control of management and distributing it to the right parties.
In general, there are four kinds of accountants; public accountants, management accountants, tax accountants and government accountants who are all responsible for preparing financial records for a range of organizations. The type of accounting job and accounting career you choose will depend on what type of work you want to carry out and what type of employer you’d like to work for.

Normally accounting jobs are split up into three main divisions; accounting jobs, auditing jobs (the evaluation of the process or system) and bookkeeping jobs (the recording of financial transactions), with each playing an important role within any organization. Key tasks involved with any accounting job include reporting and analyzing financial information (profit or loss for a given period, the value of a business' assets and the nature of a firm's liabilities), advising on taxation matters and performing internal audits.
In their day-to-day tasks, accountants also use accounting software to record, store and analyze information, operate calculators and copy machines to complete complex calculations and receive, record and deposit cash and checks. Other financial accounting job tasks can include completing the employee payroll, preparing property tax reviews, calculating the depreciation for all purchased assets, coding documents according to business guidelines and dealing with auditors regarding audit inquiries. Last but not least, accountants are responsible for preparing a monthly, quarterly and annual report on how much a business has earned, spent, invested and/or lost.
